About Dr Gary Nicholls

Dr Gary Nicholls has enjoyed working as a Doctor for more than 20 years. He studied Medicine in the UK at Cambridge University and St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical College, London.

Gary completed Physician training working in busy teaching hospitals in London, Kent, Oxford and Jersey, (Channel Isles). He has since been dually trained in hospital medicine and community General Practice.

Gary relocated to Sydney in 2001 and has since developed a strong working relationship with St Vincent’s Hospital, Darlinghurst. He worked as a Senior Registrar at St Vincent’s in Emergency Medicine, General and Acute Medicine, Clinical Pharmacology and Palliative Care. He also developed services in Homeless Health, Ambulatory Care, and Drug and Alcohol Medicine. He is passionate about ensuring patients access the right care for their needs – and improving communication and shared care between hospitals and GPs.

Gary joined Cooper Street Clinic in 2011 and works part-time. He continues to hold a position as a Clinical Director in Primary Care / General Medicine for NSW Health.

Gary is a Conjoint Lecturer in Medicine at the University of New South Wales and St Vincent’s Hospital, an active member of the local GP Network and a Board Director for the Central and Eastern Sydney Primary Health Network. He undertakes Continuous Professional Development through the Royal Australian College of General Practice and a number of other national and international professional associations.  He has admitting rights and associations with a number of local private hospitals and nursing homes.
